SIP calculator with annual step-up

Estimate what a monthly SIP could grow to at a return you assume, with an optional yearly increase in the instalment and a view in today's money. The return is an input, never a promise: market-linked investments can lose value.

An assumption for illustration, not a forecast.

0 means the same amount every month.

Default 4% is RBI's inflation target, not a forecast. Try 6% for a cautious view.

How the estimate is calculated

Each instalment is treated as invested at the start of a month and grows at a steady monthly rate until the end of the period. The yearly return you enter is converted to an equivalent monthly rate so that twelve months of growth add up to exactly that yearly return:

i = (1 + R)1/12 − 1

With a constant instalment S for n months, the value is the future value of a series paid at the start of each period:

FV = S × [(1 + i)n − 1] ÷ i × (1 + i)

With a step-up, the instalment rises by your chosen percentage after every 12 instalments, so the calculator adds the months one at a time instead of using the single formula.

A note on conventions. Some calculators instead divide the yearly rate by 12 (12% becomes 1% a month), which compounds to about 12.68% a year and gives a higher figure. We use the equivalent monthly rate so that "10% a year" means 10% a year. Real returns are uneven from year to year; a steady rate is only a planning simplification.

Worked examples

Small case to check by hand: ₹1,000 a month for 12 months at an assumed 12% a year. Monthly rate i = 1.121/12 − 1 = 0.9489%. Value = 1,000 × [(1.12 − 1) ÷ 0.009489] × 1.009489 = ₹12,766.50 on ₹12,000 invested.

Step-up check: at a 0% return, ₹1,000 a month for two years with a 10% step-up is 12 × 1,000 + 12 × 1,100 = ₹25,200. The calculator gives ₹25,200.

Longer illustration: ₹10,000 a month for 15 years at an assumed 10% a year: ₹18,00,000 invested, estimated value ₹40,16,212 (40.16 lakh). At 4% inflation that is about ₹22,30,060 in today's money. With a 10% yearly step-up, ₹38,12,698 is invested and the estimate becomes ₹72,00,363.

What this does not tell you

  • Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks; AMFI's investor education material presents return figures only as assumptions for illustration (Source: Association of Mutual Funds in India (Mutual Funds Sahi Hai), checked 26 October 2026).
  • Expense ratios, exit loads, taxes and missed instalments are not modelled.
  • A higher assumed return is not a reason to choose an investment. This site does not rate or recommend any fund or scheme. For personal advice, you can check whether an adviser is registered on SEBI's register of investment advisers (Source: Securities and Exchange Board of India, checked 26 October 2026).
